Enter the Cast of
Characters and Chronology of the Case
These are databases that can populated
during the first meetings with your client.
Input the names, positions and relationships of all
the people pertinent to the case. Develop a
chronology of what happened, when it happened and if
it is a disputed event. Color code the events
if they are positive or negative to your case.
Create
Lookup Tables for Case-wide Ease and
Consistency
Lookup tables are available for many of
the fields in Summation. They provide
consistency for coding and searching throughout the life of the
case.
Load
Document Images and OCR (Ongoing Process)
As documents come in during the life of
the case, you will load the images and the
associated text file from the OCR (Optical Character
Recognition) into Summation. You will be able
to search both the verbiage of the document and the
coding about the document while looking at the
document's image.
Build the
Document Index (Database Coding/Entry) with Critical Information (Ongoing
Process)
It is important to designate the documents in
various ways to help you find relevancy, differences
and commonalities. One way to do this is to
code the documents; this identifies traits and
details of the documents that are not always found
in the documents themselves. This ultimately
helps your searching to find the information you
need quickly and accurately.
Search
Every Aspect of your Evidence with Powerful Tools
(Ongoing Process)
During the case's life, you will be
looking for the proverbial needle-in-a-haystack on a
daily, if not hourly, basis. CT Summation's
powerful searching tools help you search everything
from individual documents and transcripts, to all of
the documents and transcripts, and everything
in between. The searches can be very broad
(find a single word or phrase) or very specific
(find every letter written to Mr. Smith from Ms.
Jones from January 1, 1997 through May 24, 2002
where the word "inheritance" is
used). It even lets you save your search
criteria so you can use the same search as often as
you need without have to remember how you did it the
first time.
Consolidate
the Information using Case Organizer
The Case Organizer is like an electronic
trial notebook with individual tabs that can house
any information you like. For example, you may
create a tab on "Mr. Smith"; in this tab,
you can copy every document, photograph and
transcript excerpt that pertains to him. Or
you can create a tab on a specific issue. It's
your notebook: you can organize it in whatever
way that helps you win.
Share your
Evidence with Co-Counsel and Expert Witnesses with
Briefcasing Tools (Ongoing Process)
As you work with others on your case, you
can share your documents and coding with them using
Summation's Briefcasing tools. If they also
have Summation, the Briefcase can be loaded directly
into their database. If they don't have
Summation, they can view the documents through their
internet browser. These Briefcases can be
shared via email or burned to media.
Connect
Directly to Court Reporter during Depositions and
Mediations using RealTime
Instead of trying to take copious notes
during a deposition, you can connect your laptop
directly to the Court Reporter and receive their
feed as they type. Create color-coded notes
with a single keyboard stroke. You can now pay
attention to the deponent and their body language
instead of trying to remember what they just said
and missing what they are saying now because you
can't write fast enough. You have a draft transcript
to work with immediately instead of waiting five
days for the certified copy to arrive.
Identify
and Code Important Testimony with Transcript Notes
Stop losing those yellow sticky-notes you
put throughout the paper copy of the
transcript. CT Summation gives you electronic
"sticky-notes" that never get lost or
misplaced. You can write whatever you like in
them, date them, record the author of the note and
issue-code it for relevance, allowing you to search
for pertinent notes and transcript excerpts as you
need.
Create a
Chain of Evidence that Link
Critical Documents, Transcripts, Documents and
Websites
Link testimony to relevant documents,
photographs, exhibits, emails and/or websites to
create a chain of evidence. This allows you to
follow the trail wherever it may lead.
Prepare
your Presentation with Slideshow
Tools and
Interaction with Other Trial Presentation Software
Packages
Use CT Summation's Slideshow to create
powerful presentations from transcript excerpts,
highlighted documents and other document
images. If you desire something with more
flash, information can easily be passed between
Summation and other Trial Presentation software
packages such as Trial Director and Sanction.
